The motivation is commercial - maintaining the identity of the alloy during fabrication, use and recycling allows the alloy producer to use (and value) all the alloy components in the recycled alloy, not just the nickel. It also allows the producer to achieve high quality product specifications without incurring extra refining or qualification costs.
