Rapeseed Description Update
Rapeseed is bright yellow and is a member of the Brassicaceae family. It is more known as rape, oilseed rape, rapa, rappi, or rapeseed. Oilseed rape has another name which it goes by, canola. In the 19th century a source of lubricant for steam engines was rapeseed oil. Animal feed, vegetable oil, and biodiesel are all one of the reasons rapeseed is grown for production. In 2000, according to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, rapeseed the third leading source of vegetable oil. There is 50% erucic acid in natural rapeseed oil. Erucic acid gives rapeseed oil its bitter taste.
