Coca Description Update
Coca is a plant in the Erythroxylaceae family and is popularly heard to be in the following products: coca tea, coca butter, coca beans, and coca plant seeds. It has a number of medical uses and is drought and disease resistant. Coca is mostly known as cocaine and the sale of coca produces a significant amount of corruption and violence. Alkaloid cocaine is the pharmacologically active ingredient of coca and this causes coca to act as a mild stimulant; which in turn suppresses hunger, thirst, pain, and fatigue when chewed. Coca is widely consumed by the Andean peoples of Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia and northwestern Argentina.
