People's desire for better tasting and exotic foods have spurred demand for water by farmers around the world. The demand for beef which requires four times as much water to produce than chicken and orange juice which requires five times as much water to produce than a cup of tea, has increased the demand for water drastically. As the the population of the middle class increases agricultural demands on water will increase even if the world's population stays the same.
