Marvel Entertainment, Inc. founded in 1988, publishes comic books and trade paperbacks, sells toys, produces and distributes films, and licenses out a proprietary library of approximately 5,000 characters throughout the world including Spider-Man, the X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America,The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Blade, Daredevil, The Punisher, Iron Man, The Avengers, Silver Surfer, and Nick Fury. Marvel Entertainment is divided into four segments: Licensing, Publishing, Toys, and Film Production. The Licensing segment licenses out the right to character names and likeness in third-party toys, games, electronics, clothes, and consumable, as well as to theme parks, feature films, television programs, and print publications. The Publishing segment publishes its own branded comic books (Marvel Comics), paperbacks, and specialty hardcovers to consumers through comic book stores and retail outlets, including newsstands, and via subscription. The Toys segment develops and sells toys based on licensed characters. The Film Production segment (including Marvel Studios and Marvel Animaton) produces and distributes films worldwide.
